To My Dearest Sister, Dupe Irele. With A Mother’s Heart and A Soul Full of Grace

My beloved sister Dupe,

With a heart that understands too deeply the silent ache of loss, I write to you today as both a friend and a fellow mother who has walked this valley of grief. The memory of your beloved son, Ehiseme Osarieme Alonge, now ten years past, remains ever present—etched in time, in tears, and in love. And still, like a rose that blooms in winter, you have continued to rise, steadfast and faithful.

There is no name for a mother who has lost her child—no word exists, because the world dares not name a grief so deep. But you and I, we know it well. I lost my only son too. Not a day passes that his face does not flash across my heart like a sunrise I cannot touch. And yet, in this painful absence, we have not been forsaken. For the God we serve has held us close. Through the storms and the stillness, He has kept us. And for this, I thank God for your life.

I see the grace with which you carry your pain—never bitter, always beautiful. I see the strength that holds you upright and the faith that whispers, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Dupe, your dedication to the things of God, your unshakeable hope, your gentle but powerful spirit—they are a testament to Ehi’s legacy and a mother’s enduring love.

The memorial you are preparing is not just a remembrance; it is a resurrection of love. Through the Ehibam GriefShare Foundation, Ehi lives. Through your courage, his light continues to shine. May every detail of the event be touched by grace. May all who attend be blessed, consoled, and inspired. May the heavens smile upon the works of your hands and may all go well, in Jesus’ name.

And now, I speak life into your daughter—the one who remains, the one whose presence continues the story. She shall live to be celebrated. You shall one day be called Grandmother, and the joy that comes will restore what the years have taken. The Lord will make your latter days overflow with peace and praise. You shall laugh again—loud, long, and without sorrow.

Take heart, my darling sister. Ehi is not forgotten. He is remembered in every life touched by your love. May the balm of Heaven continue to soothe your heart, and may your soul forever rest in the embrace of hope.

With all my love,
Mama OluwaBunmi
